I decided to hike the Discovery Trail in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, which serves as a guided tour of the effects of wildfires on old growth forests. Timely considering a large portion north of where I was hiking was currently on fire. I could see massive clouds of smoke billowing into the sky through the trees.
Mossy.I saw a hawk! Or an eagle! Or a falcon! Not really sure what kind of bird it was but it was HUGE!
Snowbrush smells awful, imho.
Sunset from the mountaintop.
The second half of the trail featured entire swaths of forest that had recovered post wildfire, and the subsequent effects on the remains of the trees was gorgeous. It looked more like the skin of a reptile than the bark of a tree.
Great photos Jaclyn. And good to see the forest beginning to recover, especially with fires now raging just to the north of you.
